Who we are
The Global Fund for Cities Development (GFCD) is an NGO that is being set up to help developing local authorities cope with the major issues of urban development by enabling them to build the capacities for meeting their planning and development needs.
The GFCD was devised and desired by the member local authorities of METROPOLIS and of UCLG to serve their development.
It is a mutual technical assistance instrument for financial engineering and funding, and it supplements existing schemes. Its aim is to facilitate access by local authorities to local, national, and international financial resources.
The steps taken to set up the GFCD will be complete on 7th October 2010 in Barcelona with its founding general meeting held alongside the meeting of the Board of Directors of Metropolis.
A meeting to prepare for the founding general meeting will be held on 24th and 25th June 2010 in Istanbul, in order to present the project in its entirety to the members of METROPOLIS and to the other local authorities who have expressed interest in the approach.
That preparatory meeting will be a pre-meeting of the Board of Directors, and it will prepare the structuring decisions of the NGO: level of membership fees, validation of the articles of association and of the budget, and identification of the launch projects.
