April 2012 - Meeting with the United Nations

As part of preparations for the Rio +20 Summit, the UN Secretary General Mr Ban Ki Moon, the UN Habitat Executive Director Mr Juan Clos and the World Bank received the principal local authorities networks: Cities Alliance, UCLG, Metropolis, ICLEI and FMDV. FMDV had the opportunity to defend its members and the access to fundings.

April 2012 - FMDV new offices

FMDV' team is now settled in the new offices located in Paris at the 132 rue du Faubourg Saint Denis 75010 Paris. The Regional offices in Mahhad, Rabat and Mexico will be open by the end of 2012.

March 2012 - Financing African cities

The French agency for development (AFD), Cities Alliances and the World Bank recently published a book on "Financing african cities". The book gives a general overview of the way of financing cities in Africa with crossed examples in other continents, and based on the socio economic background of Africa gives perspectives on ways of development. 

March 2012 6th Latin-American Congress of Cities

FMDV participated in Santiago de Chile in the 6th Congress of FLACMA, the UCLG regional representation for Latin America. Chaired by Kadir Topbas, UCLG President, the Congress gathered more than 1 500 participants around subjects such as decentralization, local economic development, prevention of risks disaster, etc.

February 2012 - Participation in the GOLD III report

FMDV has been designated by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and Metropolis to participate in the production of the third Global Report on Decentralization and Local Democracy (GOLD). The report will be devoted to the "Governance of local public services", and of the role of local authorities, particularly in the fields of water and sanitation, waste management, transport and energy. UCLG has entrusted FMDV to examine Metropolitan areas through case studies of 15 cities.
